I was on Pomona betweeen then 21st and 24th July to:
service 8 micro moths
replace the 2 nonfunctional micro moths at G05 and F09 (now F10)
place 10 new moths set to record 8pm to 5am from the 1st August. I need them recording shorter summer hours so the batteries will last all month.
There are also still 5 moths recording 1 minute in every 30, 24/7, but they did not require attention.
The weather was beautiful when not foggy.

I did a bit of walking:
And heard a duet at 1am at the landing beach, as well as several distant calls coming from high up the face. I do dream about those big feet stomping by in the night, alas, not yet. Statistically, it is a certainty.
Active Moth Locations
Micro Moths: C05, D03, D09, F10, G05, H04, M04, N14, N20, NB14
Kiwi Moths: A11, H09, J06, S23, W20, CB11, S13T, W4, V05 (August only)
Pomona 1/30 Moths: C03, G05, H01, J11, P09
Rona 1/30 Moths: 287, 343, 620, 635, 778.1
It is going to take me a few days to finish updating skraak.kiwi. I have added a lot of new data related to trip statistics, check back in at the end of next week.
Rough calls detected in this batch of data:
Kaka were specially common around M04, NB14, D09, also H04. I heard Kaka myself at the landing beach, N06M, but had no recorder there for the last period.
My next exploratory analysis, coming soon, will be around the number of male calls recorded vs female. Not sure how it will go as I need to use the autogenerated Close/Ok/Far labels to look at this, it is a fairly unsophisticated 4 layer convolutional neural net I use for this.
There are a few explanations:
Male kiwi just call more
Male calls carry further, therefore I am getting the same call on multiple recorders
Could my model be missing female calls?
Am I misclassifying some male calls as female?
As part of this I also plan to compare Avianz female detections (including some human searching at the time) with my unassisted opensounscape detections. I know from experience the AviaNZ model frequently misses obvious female calls and I expect my model to be a big improvement, but lets see what the data suggests.
I have gone a little overboard on audio links this time. Enjoy listening. It wiil take me a while to update Spotify with all new calls, a week or 2 I expect as that is the las tjob on the list.
